Course Overview

Emergency First Aid at Work

If your first aid needs assessment identifies the necessity for one, this 6-hour, 1-day qualification is just what you need. This course meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

This course is led by experienced healthcare professionals who are currently practicing in the pre-hospital field. This means you’ll be learning from experts who bring real-world experience and practical insights to the training.

Course Overview

First Aid at Work

The qualification includes 18 guided learning hours (GLH) and 22 total qualification hours (TQT). GLH refers to supervised classroom hours, while TQT includes both GLH and independent study. HSE requires the 18 hours of classroom contact to be spread over at least 3 days. A maximum of 12 learner per instructor.

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and a written exam, both of which must be passed to earn the qualification. There is no grading; learners either pass or are referred.

First Aid at Work
(Re-qualification)

According to HSE guidance, a first aider is no longer considered competent once their qualification expires. To avoid a shortfall of qualified first aiders in the workplace, requalification should be arranged before expiry. To requalify learners can attend a shortened 12-hour two-day requalification course.

The two-day requalification course covers all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the three-day course in a shorter time. Learners must attend the specific two-day FAW requalification course and cannot simply attend two days of the three-day course. The qualification consists of two units that must be successfully completed to achieve the First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification.
